Legal and General has altered the evidence limits on its income protection benefit plan.
According to the protection provider, it has changed the limits to improve the application process for customers which means that fewer customers will need routine medical evidence as part of their application process. This will enable underwriting decisions to be made more swiftly and more policies able to be put on risk automatically.
The changes include the removal of General Practitioners reports (GPR's) and exercise electrocardiograms as a routine evidence requirement. In addition telemedical interviews have been established for all age ranges where routine evidence is required. L&G has also reduced the number of age bands from five to three.
Russell Whitworth, underwriting and claims director for L&G, said: "We are continually reviewing and challenging our requirements in order to improve the process for customers. Telemedical interviewing or nurse screening examinations will give us the same results but more quickly than having to obtain a full GPR, so we have removed the need for a GPR from our income protection limits."
