Rise in unemployment figures highlights need for income protection insurance
Wed, 23 Feb 2011
As unemployment figures rise following the recession, Legal and General are urging workers in the UK to take out income protection insurance .

Figures released by Legal and General show just two per cent of those who are employed had considered purchasing such protection in the event that they were made redundant. Job losses are likely to continue with government cuts hitting the public sector and businesses which support public departments facing a drop in orders.

The firm's group board director John Pollock believes mortgage payment protection insurance can also be invaluable while somebody looks for a new job. He said: "Anyone who has a mortgage or is in the process of arranging one should seriously consider putting mortgage payment protection insurance cover in place to provide for the future."

Legal and General have now made it more straightforward for customers to take out income protection insurance by reducing the need to declare medical evidence when applying for a policy.
