Almost 95 per cent of those who work as temporary staff in the UK do not have life assurance or personal accident insurance, according to recent research from de Poel.
These figures precede the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), which come into force in October, whereby temporary staff will receive the same rights as their permanent colleagues after 12 weeks of working in a job .
The lack of insurance for 95 per cent of agency workers especially affects those who are employed in sectors with the highest number of accidents and injuries, such as logistics and waste. The logistics sector has seen 3,095 major injuries in the last year,
while the waste sector has seen four times more accidents per person than any other industry sector.
Matthew Sanders CEO of de Poel comments: "It is shocking to hear about the number of temporary agency workers that are leaving themselves vulnerable because of the lack of insurance. Workers should be made aware about the pitfalls of not having insurance and be given information about the options available to them."
