The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) is to introduce a new diploma in regulated financial planning in June of this year.
The proposed post-retail distribution review level four qualification has been created by advisers and and is a reflection of feedback gained from members, students and advisers.
Advisers will be able sit an exam online and the new diploma incorporates multiple choice questions. Sandy Scott, chief executive officer of the CII, said: "As the leading professional body in this sector our scale and financial strength means we do not have to produce a 'one size fits all' qualification for existing advisers."
He added that the CII has worked together with practitioners to develop a diploma that offers flexibility, allowing advisers to pick and choose the modules which are most relevant to them. To help advisers pass, CII will provide study aids, online support and audio courses which cover essential elements of the syllabus.
