Axa warns that women are not protecting themselves financially
Thu, 20 May 2010
Despite being more financially important to their families than ever, women are not protecting themselves, according to new research conducted by Axa .

The study also revealed that many women are unaware of their importance to family finances as 37 per cent believe they "don't need" cover. It further showed that just over a third (38 per cent) of women have any life insurance and only one in five (18 per cent) own critical illness cover and this is despite their growing role in supporting family costs.

Jamie McIver, director of protection sales at Axa, says the research shows that women are becoming increasingly important to the family economy, yet they are leaving themselves and their dependants desperately vulnerable.

He added: "The future is likely to see the situation getting worse. During the recession more men than women became redundant and predictions suggest that by 2030 one in four women will be the main breadwinner in homes, while the past 30 years have already seen a significant rise in female employment."
