Income protection could ease money worries for those on sickness absence
Tue, 15 Jun 2010
A new study of UK businesses and their employees indicates that the majority of UK employees (78 per cent) would be willing to jeopardise their long term health by returning to work from sickness absence before they are 100 per cent fit.

According to the "early intervention prevention" report from Aviva UK Health, money worries are the root cause for this damaging trend. Around 49 per cent of those questioned said they would return to their desk early if they thought their family couldn't cope financially, while a further 11 per cent claimed that the stress of losing their job would hasten their return to work.

However, families could be spared from many of the hardships of long term absence by taking out income protection, which pays a regular tax free income should a person be unable to work due to illness or accidental injury . In addition, customers can get access to a wide range of rehabilitation support including counselling services, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, physiotherapy and occupational health and advice on improving workplace accessibility to support their return to work.
