A cancer charity has warned that Britain's increased survival rate is not all good news as survivors often go on to struggle with other serious illnesses, highlighting the need for protection, according to Bright Grey .
Macmillan Cancer Support has reported the five-year survival rates are higher than they have ever been, however many patients do not appreciate the lasting impact of cancer and its treatment.
Roger Edwards, proposition director for Bright Grey and Scottish Provident, said: "It is a good opportunity for advisers to be quick off the mark and use news stories like this to contact new and existing clients to talk to them about how they can set up a critical illness plan to provide much needed money in the event of a serious illness like cancer."
Mr Edwards added that while doctors can treat the physical effects of illness, they cannot provide the financial treatment available from an adviser.
