Aviva has told customers that critical illness and life insurance policies are vital, even though everybody hopes they will not need to claim on them.
Michael Whyte, chief underwriter for the firm, made the comments after news that the insurance provider had paid out nearly £60 million in the first six months of the year to people with critical illnesses. Mr Whyte claimed that these policies can be essential so that a families' finances are not such a worry if a relative becomes ill.
He said: "We are proud that we can make a difference to these families when they need it most, removing financial worries so that they can focus on what is most important."
Aviva reported that it had paid 744 claims in the six months up until the end of June and the most common illness paid out for was cancer . The company recently stated that they will be offering the services of medically-trained professionals to help their Group Risk customers fill in medical underwriting forms.
