British Insurance co-founder, Sara Burgess, has acquired Reliance Mutual subsidiary, The British Life Office and is aiming to launch a range of protection products by the end of the year.
Ms Burgess and her husband Simon were planning to set up their own provider and it has now been revealed that The British Life Office will form the base for that launch. Sara will work on the new business alone from October however, according to Money Management, Simon also plans to leave British Insurance to join the business as joint managing director next year.
The British Life Office will provide life insurance, income protection, accident sickness and unemployment cover and health insurance, but not critical illness due to Burgess' concerns over its limitations. They will be available both via intermediaries and direct to consumers over the internet.
The British Life Office was established in 1896 and was acquired by Reliance Mutual in 1958. Sara Burgess said: "This is a heritage company that has been around for 113 years and it will have old fashioned values delivered through cutting edge technology."
