Website admits misguiding customers over protection
Thu, 26 Mar 2009
MoneySupermarket.com has admitted that customers may have been misled by its marketing promotions and confused payment protection insurance (PPI) with income protection cover .

There were complaints from IFAs after the website advertised PPI under the income protection banner. As a result of this, at the beginning of March, the website changed this to read 'payment protection' after it was convinced that this had caused confusion. The change affected the website's navigation bar as well as its PPI page.

Ian Williams, director of communications for MoneySupermarket.com, said: "A couple of people raised the point that it might be misleading. We had a look at it and we agreed and so we made the change."

However, the website's 'Guide to income protection insurance ' was not updated at the same time, despite being a reference for PPI products. Mr Williams acknowledged that this remained a work in progress. He added: "We are working through updating all of our guides at the moment, so a change to the income protection guide is quite likely."
