Munich Re broaches critical illness top-up plan

Wed, 01 Jul 2009

A supplementary critical illness (CI) plan which will allow consumers to top-up their existing cover on one or two conditions is being talked about by Munich Re.

The reinsurer says CI Plus would cater, for example, for those clients worried about a history of cancer in their family . Where existing CI policies cover a wide range of conditions, CI Plus would enable consumers to add around £20,000 worth of cover, or 30 per cent above the current sum assured, for one or two conditions for a small fee.

Andy Milburn, Munich Re UK's head of marketing, said: "CI Plus would complement not compete with existing Critical Illness plans and it would, unlike traditional cover, be based on a want not a need. CI Plus is a suggestion we allow clients to increase cover above and beyond what they already have, just for one or two conditions, if they have concerns in those areas."
