Single people have been found to be particularly at risk of leaving themselves financially exposed, according to new research from UK Life insurer Zurich .
Protecting personal finances against long term sickness or critical illness is possibly more important among single people than married couples . However, the study by Zurich revealed that only one out of ten singletons have any critical illness cover and less than one out of ten (8 per cent) have any form of income protection cover . Without any other income to rely on, this lack of financial protection would undoubtedly have a major financial impact on an individual if they were to become ill.
Tony Solomon, Business Development Director, Zurich UK Life, said: "The research has demonstrated that there is a real need for financial advice, particularly among people who are single. An independent financial adviser can help to alleviate some of the stress and worry in making short and long term financial plans, whatever your lifestyle.
