New non-smokers need to review life assurance
Wed, 21 Jan 2009
L&C Mortgages, a fee-free broker, has calculated that those smokers who have quit with the help of the NHS Stop Smoking Service, could be saving over £30 million a year by reviewing their life assurance arrangements.

According to the firm, new non-smokers can boost the substantial cut in paying out for their cigarettes by seeking out cheaper premiums. However, they could have to wait before realising the benefits as life assurance companies only offer cheaper premiums to those who have not smoked or used tobacco/nicotine replacement products for more than 12 months.

L&C have launched a new service, called LifePROMPT, which aims to help those who have kicked the habit but will not qualify for cheaper protection for a few months. For those not yet classed as non-smokers, LifePROMPT offers the facility to diarise an email or text reminder for a review at the appropriate time.

Richard Morea, technical manager at L&C Mortgages says, "Life assurance is essential for many of us and in today's economic climate getting the best premium becomes even more important."
