More British adults have insurance cover on their property than they do on their health, according to Scottish Provident .
Research conducted by the insurance provider revealed that 71 per cent of adults have taken out policies on their household property, with 23 per cent having cover in case their electrical goods break down. However, only 44 per cent of those surveyed have life insurance cover, with just 15 per cent having critical illness insurance to provide cover against serious illness.
Susan Barclay, head of marketing at Scottish Provident, said: "It is great to see that people are taking out adequate insurance to cover the items in their homes . However, this should not be at the expense of personal cover."
She added that while many people think that their savings will cover them should they fall critically ill and are unable to work, the financial impact can run into thousands of pounds.
