Bupa Individual Protection has announced an extension to its premium reduction offer for excluded conditions on critical illness .
Initially the offer was launched for cancer and multiple sclerosis exclusions only, but the insurer will now also cut premiums on policies where cardiovascular and diabetic conditions are omitted.
Lifesearch, an insurance broker, is leading a campaign for providers to commit to premium reductions when exclusions are added to a policy. At present, only Fortis and Bupa offer a discount while Axa is considering the move.
In addition, Bupa Individual Protection has removed the age limit for the diagnosis of conditions including dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons and Motor neurone disease. The insurer is also increasing the the age limit for the waiver of premium and total permanent disability (TPD) benefit to 70 "to meet the needs of an ageing population". The enhancements follow the recent increase in the cover available on Bupa Individual Protection's critical illness products.
