Report highlights importance of financial protection
Mon, 08 Sep 2008
Matt Morris, Policy Adviser at LifeSearch, commented on the Yorkshire Building Society's recent protection research: "I think the report that Yorkshire Building Society has released - The Protection Gap: How the UK is Living on the Edge - highlights just how important financial protection is and how devastating the consequences can be if you haven't taken out a policy to safeguard your finances ."

He added that life cover is important, but there is a greater chance of suffering a serious illness or disability during a person’s working life than death . Policies like Income Protection, Critical Illness and Real Life Cover should be at the top of most people's protection 'shopping list'.

In addition, he advised people to remember that most people drastically overestimate the amount of state benefits they will receive. In order to ensure that debts can be paid and lifestyles can be maintained if a person is too ill to work, it is essential to look into taking out financial protection.
