There are nine key life stages at which insurance is critical, say Legal and General .
These include buying a house, getting married, starting a family, starting a business and starting a new job . Also on the list are expanding a family, upsizing homes, divorce and approaching retirement . The firm have specified the type of insurance required at each stage, such as critical illness cover or income protection .
Spokesperson Bonnie Burns said that protection insurance is usually mistakenly viewed as an "afterthought". She also advises people to review it at times such as moving house or expanding a family in order to avoid a personal protection gap from increasing.
Recently Legal and General increased its limits for financial underwriting.
Life insurance can now go as high as £800,000 (previously £600,000) and critical illness cover is at £500,000 rather than £350,000. Financial evidence such as loan offer letters will not be required up to these limits.
