Almost half of all working women in the UK do not have any form of financial protection insurance, despite the growth of the female breadwinner.
According to a study conducted by Axa, there are currently eight million British women in employment who do not have life insurance, critical illness or income protection cover to help them should the worst happen.
The findings reveal that the advancement of women into important positions in the workforce has not been reflected by a change in their attitude to insurance. Iain Mallon, head of protection at AXA, said: "The ''noughties" is an era in which women have greater control than ever before over their lives and their finances but they are still failing to recognise their own financial and lifestyle developments in their protection cover."
He added that unlike during the 1970s, in the present climate there could be significant financial implications for the whole family should a woman become ill and be unable to work.
