Welfare Reform Act leaves consumers confused
Fri, 21 Nov 2008
The Welfare Reform Act has brought in new legislation and now Incapacity Benefit has been replaced with Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). However, a new report by protection specialist LV= has found that 17.5 million British adults in full time employment are unaware of these changes.

One fifth (20 per cent) of employees surveyed were unaware of how much they were entitled to receive under the legislation and around one in ten (8 per cent) revealed they didn’t expect their employer to give them any financial assistance.

Chris McFarlane, Head of Protection at LV= comments: "It is clear that there is a huge lack of understanding among employees around the new changes announced by the Government . The Welfare Reform Act has completely redesigned what financial support could be available to people if they were unable to work, and no-one should assume that the State would support them and cover their regular financial commitments."
