In response to consumer and adviser demand, Exeter Friendly Society has unveiled a new private medical insurance (PMI) product.
Health Cover for Me will offer unlimited cover for cancer and home nursing as well as unrestricted cover for day and out-patient treatment. In addition, Exeter is giving a 10 per cent discount on premiums for non-smokers and people with a body mass index (BMI) under 25.
There is also a co-payment option available, offering a significant reduction in premium rates, as long as the consumer is willing to pay either 10 per cent, 25 per cent or 50 per cent of their treatment costs.
Nick Jones, marketing manager at Exeter, which merged with Pioneer Friendly in March, explained that the product was designed to deal with a general lack of consumer confidence in protection products. Mr Jones said: "During our research, we found a real desire among consumers and intermediaries for a comprehensive plan that reassures."
