Asbestos victims supported by insurer
Fri, 28 Nov 2008
Victims of Asbestos are being supported by insurer Zurich Life Insurance who is challenging other insurance premiums in court.

Zurich has said that it will take the matter to court after research revealed that premiums from several insurers found that victims of Asbestos can only be compensated for the period after they became ill.

According to the life insurer, most Asbestos victims can be exposed to it before they become ill. Iwan Borszcz, casualty claims director at the company which markets Zurich life assurance said: "If we didn't challenge this issue in court, then the compensation payments for the victims that were negligently exposed to Asbestos would have been either significantly less than they should've been, or non-existent in cases where the insurer has ceased trading, or is insolvent ."

A study by Zurich Risk Service in 2003 found that 87 per cent of insurers in the Northwest of England didn’t intend to deal with the risks of asbestos at work .
