The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is rearranging its Protection Committee to try and improve the clarity and status of protection insurance.
The Committee will split in two forming the Protection Development Committee, which will be responsible for short and medium-term issues and the Protection Strategy Committee which will view issues in the longer term.
The emphasis of the Development group will be on all group and individual protection products, which will include long term care, managing, and developing Statements of Best Practice and Industry Guidance for protection business . The Strategy group will focus on developing a template for the ideal political and consumer climate along with the right legal, regulatory and distribution framework to help meet the lifetime protection needs of consumers.
Nick Kirwan, ABI's head of health and protection insurance, says: "Separating the day-to-day work from the longer-term strategic thinking will allow each committee to focus in more detail on their objectives. The ABI will co-ordinate the activities of both committees to ensure they are aligned."
