A new study suggests that Britain is in denial with regard to protection. The majority of the nation dont believe that they are likely to suffer serious illness, job loss or financial problems during their lifetime.
Data from AXAs latest international Protection Scope survey could explain why a relatively low number of British adults, 40%, have a health insurance policy . In contrast, the study found a total of 91% of the French adults surveyed had taken out health insurance .
Many UK adults, 74%, believe they can rely on their family and relatives to help out financially when they are facing a crisis, which reflects in their lack of financial and insurance planning.
Iain Mallon, head of protection at AXA, says: "Despite the fact that many UK adults think life risks are unlikely to happen to them personally, the reality is that they can happen to anyone.
"Families are vital for support, but to rely solely on them for financial help is not always the best option. We strongly recommend people seek advice from an independent financial adviser to ensure they have the financial protection they need."
