Axa PPP Healthcare has launched a new private medical insurance (PMI) plan called First Healthcare specifically for children .
The plan will cost £9.99 a month and will cover consultations with specialists and also out-patient tests and scans for diagnostic purposes.
If a child requires hospital treatment as an in-patient or a day patient and the NHS are unable to see the child within six weeks of when treatment should take place, First Healthcare will pay for private treatment .
This arrangement, which allows the NHS to provide treatment which is urgently needed while avoiding delays helps keep premiums low, says Axa PPP Healthcare. There are additional features such as covering the cost of parent accommodation when they need to stay with a child under 11 in hospital overnight, as well as access to a team of healthcare professionals 24 hours a day all year round.
Geoff Salter, Axa PPP Healthcare head of product management, said: "First Healthcare is for people who may not be able to afford private healthcare cover for their whole family, but who want to make sure their children are covered."
